Hello yogis! Today we’re going to break down how to get into CROW POSE in 5 easy steps. In the beginning, crow pose can be very challenging and scary. We have this fear of face-planting into the ground and it’s normal. Don’t worry, if you feel that this may happen to you, put a pillow or bolster in front of you, to put your mind at ease.
Crow pose is one of the first arm balances that most practitioners try learning. The great thing about arm balances is that it doesn’t just physically build strength and stamina, but also gives us courage and confidence. As we begin to take more risks on our yoga mat, we begin to take more risks in life, realizing that we can get right back up- even if we fall. Remember to always keep practicing and soon you’ll be flying. <3
Start with your feet more than hips width distance apart. Bend the knees and bring your torso between the legs.
Place your hands on the floor shoulders width distance apart. Spread the fingertips wide. Make sure your hands are faced forward with the middle finger directly perpendicular to your wrist. Lift your hips high enough to get the knees to the armpits. Bend the arms, drawing the elbows inward.
Next, lift up to the balls of your feet and slowly feel the weight transfer to the hands. Squeeze your inner thighs to engage the pelvic floor and lower abs. Bring your shoulder blades down and away from your ears and engage the triceps.
Now we’re ready for lift off! Keep pressing the weight into your hands and start floating your feet off one at a time. As your bring the legs up, keep squeezing the inner thighs and draw in the belly.
Keep your gaze ahead of you to keep your balance. Point your toes to activate the center line of your body. Try to stay here between 3 to 5 breaths. Come down when you need to and if you fall, keep trying!
Remember to always keep practicing, if at first you don’t succeed, keep on trying! <3
