In this second part of our short introduction to the world of the Chakras, we will give you a brief guide to understanding when your Chakras are balanced or out of balance. Before you start, don’t forget to check out our first post Chakras: A basic understanding, to read a small introduction of the main energy centers in your body.
The First Chakra- Muladhara Chakra – Base Chakra (Root Center)
When it is balanced, you will experience a deep and personal relationship with the Earth. You will perceive the earth as a secure place which provides you with everything you need such as care, food, shelter and security. You open yourself to life on earth and accept everything it holds in store for you with gratitude.
When it is out of balance, your thoughts and actions revolve around material possessions and security, with only thinking of satisfying your own personal needs. The earth is just a place to be dominated and exploited. This could result in fatigue, worry, feelings of uncertainty, feelings of instability.
The Second Chakra – Svadhistana Chakra – Sacral Chakra
When it is balanced, you will feel the flow of creative life energy streaming through your body, soul and mind. You participate in the deep joy of creation and life continually fills you with awe and enthusiasm. Your actions are creative as they will stimulate not only your own life but also the lives of others. You open yourself towards others, especially the opposite sex.
When it is out of balance, the creative potential of sexuality is not recognized. Feelings of uncertainty and tensions in regards to the opposite sex. This could result in lower back pain, low sex drive, urinary or digestive problems, shyness, lack of creativity and intimacy issues.
The Third Chakra – Manipura Chakra – Solar Plexus Chakra
When it is balanced, it creates a feeling of peace and inner harmony with your Self. You can accept yourself completely and also respect the feelings and character traits of others. You are full of light and energy, and the light within you also envelops your body. This protects you from negative vibrations and radiates into your environment.
When it’s out of balance, could physically feel stomach pains and ulcers. You want to manipulate everything in accordance to your own wishes. You want to control, conquer and exercise power. Maybe you experienced a lack of acceptance your childhood and adolescent years and now you seek recognition and satisfaction from the material world, rather than from within yourself. You may get highly upset easily. Your agitation is an expression of anger that has been accumulated for over a long period of time. This could result in fear of rejection, self-esteem issues and indecision.
The Fourth Chakra – Anahata Chakra – Heart Chakra
When it is balanced, you radiate natural warmth, sincerity and happiness. This opens the hearts of the people around you, inspires confidence and creates joy. Your feelings are free of inner disturbances, conflicts, doubts or uncertainty. You put your heart into everything you do. You recognize that all beings live in your heart. The feeling of being alive grows so strong that you begin to understand what “life” in its purest form signifies, an everlasting expression of Divine love and bliss.
When it is out of balance, you are incapable of accepting the love that others want to give you and are unable to open yourself to receiving. You can physically have problems with your heart and emotionally have a lack of compassion and feelings of hopelessness. If your heart chakra is completely shut, this will express itself in coldness, indifference or even “heartlessness”. Perhaps you tell yourself that you do not need the love others could give you.
The Fifth Chakra – Vishuddha Chakra – Throat Chakra
When it is balanced, you possess the ability to fully express yourself with your entire personality. You can also remain silent and listen to others. Other people’s opinions do not sway or manipulate you; instead you maintain your independence, freedom and self-determination.
When it is out of balance, you are simply afraid to live or express it because you fear the judgement of others. This difficulty of expression could make its way through the form of poems or paintings or other means of spontaneous expression, but you share them with others reluctantly. You hold yourself back; you may be shy, quiet and withdrawn. Physically you may develop thyroid problems, a sore throat or a stiff neck.
The Sixth Chakra – Ajna Chakra – Third Eye Chakra
When it is balanced, you probably possess a well-developed capacity of visualization and the ability to comprehend many things intuitively. Nowadays, there are very few people with a completely open third eye. Idealism and fantasy are the key elements of your thinking. Your possibly notice from time to time that your thoughts or ideas come true. The more your third eye develops, the more your thoughts are based on a direct inner awareness of reality. It is impossible for us to describe the entire range of skills that an open third eye is capable of. You would perceive the world in a new way. The limitations of rational thought will be totally transformed and the material world will become transparent to you.
When it is out of balance, your life is determined almost exclusively by reason and intellect. You only accept what you perceive with your rational mind. Your intellectual skills may be developed and you may analyze things very well, but you are lacking a holistic way of seeing things. You can easily become a victim of intellectual arrogance. The only things you accept are those that the mind can comprehend and proven by scientific method. You reject spiritual insight as unscientific and unrealistic. Your life is dominated by material desires and find that spiritual reflection is a waste of time.
The Seventh Chakra – Sahasrara Chakra – Crown Chakra
You will experience more and more moments when the division between inner being and outer life recedes into the background. Your consciousness is completely calm and open. You will feel as if you have woken up from a long dream and that you are finally now beginning to live in reality. Your individual ego has been transformed into a universal ego. You can develop a depth of insight and wholeness you would have considered previously impossible. Meditation and selfless devotion now provide you with insight into your Divine origin and help you experience a feeling of oneness.
Unless you open yourself to spiritual truths during the years when the crown center can develop, you may experience feelings of uncertainty and a lack of purpose. You should interpret these feelings as a hint to look inside yourself more frequently. You may also feel a certain senselessness in your life. Perhaps you will try to control these nagging feelings by escaping into excessive activity. If you ignore these messages, you may get stuck into a life of superficiality and limit the potential of your Self to develop.
Regarding to the sixth and seventh chakras, there are more people these days who have not developed their third eye and crown chakras than those who have. Don’t feel that there is something wrong with you because you haven’t experienced the feelings of having an open sixth and seventh chakra or all of them for that matter.
