When we started the project of Shambhala Barcelona in 2015, we had no idea what would be in store for us. We had a vision of what we wanted to achieve with the project and we were just following our intuitions to get there. We wanted to provide good quality yoga clothing for a fraction of the price, from what was currently out in the market.
Our first collection from Autumn-Winter 2015-16, made with DryTouch ®
In the beginning, we started our collections using two different types of fabric: cotton and DryTouch®. The DryTouch® fabric is a special fabric made from high-tech polyester yarns, especially used for fast absorption of sweat and to maximize your active performance. We love this quality of fabric! But as we grew in the market and as a provider for yoga clothing, we couldn’t help but feel that we want to reduce our carbon footprint in the world.
As much as we love the DryTouch® quality, we felt we needed to change our vision and improve our sustainability patterns. This is where the idea for Recycled Plastic Bottles came into our minds. This concept grew very attractive for us as we knew that it would not only reduce our ecological footprint, but also even improve the active quality performance of our products.
We are now extremely excited to introduce our new Euphoria collection made from Recycled Plastic Bottles! It is a big shift that we have wanted to make for quite some time now and we are happy to announce that the time has finally come.
We see on the internet and facebook all the time, the waste problem that the world is having with plastic. Plastic can literally take up more than 500 years to biodegrade, meaning that plastic inevitably outlives us, our children, grandchildren and so on and so forth. Meanwhile, our oceans are filled with about 165 tons of plastic. That is 25 times heavier than the Great Pyramid of Giza. Plastic pieces are mistaken as food by the most beautiful of creatures of the world, such as birds, turtles, whales and most marine life. Researchers have documented at least 200 species that have ingested plastic. Just seeing a simple photo or short documentary clip brings tears to our eyes that humans, as a race, can be so destructive without even fully realizing the consequences of our actions.
According to National Geographic, a shocking 91% of plastic is not recycled! If we continue consuming as much as we have been, by 2050 there will be more plastic in our seas than there will be fish and 12 billion metric tons of plastic landfills. That amount is 35,000 times as heavy as the Empire State Building. Not to mention, this plastic problem not only affects our seas and lands, but it also contributes to the amount of carbon dioxide that is released into the atmosphere, contributing to global warming.

As you can see, there is an endless amount of consequences that plastic has on Mother Nature. As a brand, we want to do our best in helping to save our environment. It may be one little step, but we believe that every little step counts in working towards a better future for our planet. Our Euphoria collection is the first collection, of what we hope to be many more to come, made from Recycled Plastic Bottles. Help us in helping save our earth. Buy products knowing that you are doing your small step for a brighter (less plastic waste) future, for us and for future generations.
